Joining the Golden Thread Sketchbook Group has already started my personal and art growth. I didn’t have the courage to join the first chapter.

I feel that my identity is very much wrapped up in our canal based life. I’m also realising that my identity feels fractured at the moment. In a family unit I am different things to different people.  I am a wife, mother, sister, daughter and friend, but I don’t think those things define me.  As I get older I am trying to find out who I actually am. It sounds like a cliché but I think it’s true.

I had been mulling over a new style in my head – simplifying the landscape and breaking it down into shapes.  It seemed to gel with my feelings about my identity. I’ve wanted to try this style for ages and I let myself play and had a great time playing with colours and shapes. Then I used sepia ink to separate the colours. I accidentally dropped water on it so it has blemishes but then so do I. Fractured pieces of a landscape come together to create a pleasing whole.
